Week 5 Injury Report: Sunday Status

Lamar Jackson is out for Sunday night, Ashton Jeanty vanished from Friday's practice, Kyle Monangai and Breece Hall are out, and both Cincinnati receivers are questionable.

Friday's reports are in for most teams, and the biggest news is official: Baltimore ruled out Lamar Jackson. Las Vegas also lost its lead back from practice, Chicago and New York ruled out backs, and both Cincinnati receivers landed on the same tag. Anything still unresolved moves to The NFL Injury Wire on Sunday.

Lamar Jackson is out

Baltimore ruled Jackson out for Sunday night's game in Atlanta on Friday afternoon, per ESPN's Adam Schefter and coach Jesse Minter, after he missed all three practice days with his ankle sprain. NFL Network's Ian Rapoport has called it a "rarer type of ankle sprain" that could cost him more than one game, though it isn't considered long-term or surgical.

Tyler Huntley starts, and the Ravens are an underdog on the road. Zay Flowers has a foot injury and was limited this week, and a Huntley start drops Lamar Jackson's whole receiver group a tier.

Jeanty disappears from practice

Ashton Jeanty was not on the field during the media portion of Friday's practice, a day after a foot injury joined his ankle problem on the report. He went from full to limited on Thursday. One outlet has him trending questionable for New England.

Mike Washington Jr., a fourth-round pick this year, would take the work. Jeanty is averaging 3.4 yards a carry with no rushing touchdowns through four games, and he played 67% of the snaps against Kansas City, down from 84% the week before.

Chicago rules out Monangai

Yahoo reports Chicago ruled out Kyle Monangai with turf toe and calls him week-to-week. He ran 30 times last Sunday. D'Andre Swift was back at practice Thursday after sitting out Wednesday with hip and knee issues and becomes the lead back against Green Bay. Caleb Williams is still out, which leaves Tyson Bagent in line to start again.

Both Cincinnati stars are questionable

Ja'Marr Chase is still in the concussion protocol after returning to limited practice Thursday, and Tee Higgins ran routes on a side field in individual drills. The Bengals will list both as questionable against Miami. If both sit, Dohnte Meyers takes the top receiver role, with Mitchell Tinsley picking up snaps.

Philadelphia is trending short in London

Saquon Barkley and DeVonta Smith both missed the first two practices of the week, and one outlet already lists Barkley as Doubtful. Will Shipley is expected to start, and Dameon Pierce was elevated from the practice squad. Tank Bigsby is on injured reserve and Dallas Goedert was limited.

The line is thinner than the backfield. The Eagles lost tackle Lane Johnson to retirement, traded center Cam Jurgens to Baltimore and have Landon Dickerson hurt.

Daniels is back, Minnesota hopes to be

Jayden Daniels has been cleared and will wear a brace on his non-throwing arm. Marcus Mariota has an MCL sprain, which ends the case for Athan Kaliakmanis.

Justin Jefferson was limited both days and says he plans to play. Jordan Addison missed Wednesday with a minor hamstring injury, and T.J. Hockenson caught 13 passes last week. If Jefferson sits, both become starts.

Also check Chris Olave's foot and Alvin Kamara's back, both of whom missed time this week. Brock Bowers is a full participant. The Jets ruled out Breece Hall and Adonai Mitchell, which leaves Braelon Allen as New York's lead back, and Baker Mayfield is out three to six weeks.

FAQ

Does a missed Friday practice mean a player is out?
Not always, but it's the strongest sign before the designation lands. Jackson did no work all week and was ruled out Friday afternoon.
What does questionable mean for Chase and Higgins?
The team doesn't know yet. Sunday's inactive list, about 90 minutes before kickoff, settles it, and Chase also has to clear the concussion protocol first.
Who benefits most if both Cincinnati receivers sit?
Meyers moves into the top receiver role, and the work spreads to Chase Brown and Mike Gesicki. Joe Burrow threw 54 times last Sunday, so there's volume to go around.
